According to the Internet sources given below, John Gerard "Jez" Lowe was born and raised in County Durham, in a family with Irish roots. His compositions deal mostly with daily life in North-East England, particularly in his hometown of Easington Colliery.
He describes himself as a Sony Award winning songwriter from County Durham. Lowe performs in the BBC series Radio Ballads, with the Bad Pennies, The Pitman Poets (Bob Fox, Benny Graham, Billy Mitchell) and The Broonzies recording some 23 albums, the first Jez Lowe (1980) and the latest The Janus Game (2016).
