"Moments of Delight", a modern work by Geoffrey Russell-Smith was one of several works which I purchased in June 1983 and intended to be used by The Schwanewede Recorder Consort. Quite a lot of effort was made with the first movement ("Time of Tranquillity") but it proved to be rhythmically very difficult for the young intermediate players (6/8, two beats in the bar but interspersed with bars having three quarters!) and it was eventually given up. The second movement, "Time for Comedy" was never attempted.
No, Sir, there were not many Moments of Delight for the Schwanewede Recorder Consort in this work; "Moments of Torture" would have been more apt. Joking aside, I am sure a competent sextet would have a lot of fun with this work and would indeed have many moments of satisfaction and accomplishment on completing the course.
