"Die ländliche Hochzeit" (The Rustic Wedding,
La nopce Champêtre ou l'Himen Pastoral) by Jean Hotteterre was amongst the first purchases that I made whilst still a young Petty Officer on H.M.S. Lofoten in November 1965. I have only played the descant part for my own amusement and have never played with a group. It presents absolutely no difficulties. It is a very interesting work having 33 movements embracing all aspects of a rustic wedding starting from assembling the wedding guests and finishing with going to bed and even waking up the morning after!
I have often thought this would be splendid to play at a real wedding but perhaps it is too long or too rustic for the people of today.
