Amazon Review
This early-20th century book of true ghost stories compares to those of James Reynolds of the same time period and is as different from postmodern collections of true supernatural tales as Nathaniel Hawthorne is to Stephen King. The detail in this book is not only astounding, but inspiring for historians and writers alike. These tales should not be absent from the bookshelf of any writer who loves the eras when English literature was at its zenith. So I want all three of you to go out and get this book now!
Downside? If there is one, it is Hole's seeming support of the newly legalized witchcraft in England (the law had just been changed in the 1930s--look it up). However, she makes a number of statements also in favor of traditional Christian viewpoints.
