Born Hamilton, Ontario, rock and roll, singing and playing bass guitar were his early intersests while at high school. In 1979 he started recording with RCA Records. His best-known pieces include Northwest Passage

and The Mary Ellen Carter
He died itragically n a fire aboard Air Canada Flight 797 on the ground at the Greater Cincinnati Airport.
