All that can presently (October 2024) be gleaned about
Elvira Leveroni from sheet music covers and by Internet searching is that she was an American mezzo-soprano billed as
the songbird of the North End who studied in Italy.
She has recorded at least 8 works between 1919 and 1922 on the Victor and Edison labels. Her portrait on the left is taken from a press cutting of
The Boston Globe , dated 24th October 1910, which describes her as a Boston Opera member. Her return to the USA from Naples on the SS Canopie was delayed due to her convalescence from cholera.
A further salacious article in
The Boston Globe of 20th July 1921 concerns her divorce from Dr. Leon A. Storz, a dentist who she married in 1917.
