SIXTY THREE YEARS ON THE VARIETY STAGE

The death occurred at his home at Quaintways, Rosehill Road, Rhyl today of Mr William James Churchill better known as "Billy" Churchill, Birkenhead Music Hall star and an old compere of the Happy Valley Minstrels, Llandudno. He was in his 84th year.
Mr "Billy" Churchill retired in 1935 after 63 years on the stage. He appeared in the first Royal Command performance in July 1912 at the Palace Theatre, London and came out of retirement to reappear in the Royal Command performance at the London Palladium in 1935. He came from a theatrical family and played Little Willie in East Lynne as a child.
He was a member of the Grand Order of the Water Rats. After his retirement he lived in Birkenhead but went to Rhyl about twelve years ago. He leaves a widow, Mrs Eleanor J Churchill.
