p_batest.jpgIt is surprising that so little is known about this performer considering the large number of recordings located. All that can presently (January 2024) be gleaned about Thorpe Bates by Internet searching is that he was an English actor/singer who recorded at least 93 works for Columbia and Gramophone between 1911 and 1924
He performed in a few films in the 1920s and 1930s as well as acting in Ferencz Lehár and Ben Travers's musical, The Three Graces, at the Empire Theatre in Leicester Square, London.
