According to the Internet source given below, Louis Daniel Armstrong aka [Satchmo], [Satch] and [Pops} was an American trumpeter, composer, singer and occasional actor who was one of the most influential figures in jazz. His career spanned five decades, from the 1920s to the 1960s, and different eras in the history of jazz.In 2017, he was inducted into the Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame.
I had the good fortune to experience Louis Armstrong live at Portsmouth Guildhall in May 1962. The 21-year old youth that I was, was a little disappointed as he rarely played his trumpet but mostly sung in that gravelly voice of his. His stage presence and personality was, however, terrific. Memorable were his Blueberry Hill
and Georgia on my Mind
. Some 40 years later of I enjoyed the envy of Harmonic Brass Munich
when telling them of this encounter.
