He lived in Devon, England having previously been a lawyer and a pilot (serving with the RAF in World War II). He also flew Lockheed Constellations for BOAC in the late 1940s/1950s. His material was slightly risqué for the times. One of his most popular and amusing compositions being

Roberts won Ivor Novello Award,ur for song writing four times and once for services to the British Music Industry.
