Dan Goldsmith  (-1920)
Last updated: 02.05.17
Dan Goldsmith is another of those composers of whom information is limited to that which can be obtained from the covers of their published works. Presumably a Canadian or an American with Canadian connections, he is known to have published 3 rags and a reel between 1909 and 1912 in Denver, Colorado and in Manitoba. A touching hint of his family ties is revealed in the dedication of his Checker Rag (1911) and Silver Leaf Rag (1911) to his mother and father respectively.
Since writing the above in September, 2007, correspondence with his grandson, Dennis Goldsmith in December, 2009 has turned up many fascinating details and research is ongoing - watch this space!
Dan Goldsmith was indeed a Canadian (possibly of British descent) rag composer from Winnipeg, Manitoba where he died in 1920, the father of two sons.
