Modest Perovich Mussorgsky  (1839-1881)

According to The New Penguin Dictionary of Music, Modest Mussorgsky was a Russian composer; at first an army officer and civil servant, studied with Balakirev. Expressed sympathy with "the people" showing in works such as "Boris Godunov". He wrote operas and songs and the famous piano work "Pictures at an Exhibition". Dies after alcoholic epileptic fits.
