Giovanni Battista Bassano  (1657-1716)
Last updated: 14.10.17
According to The Oxford Companion to Music, Giovanni Battista Bassano [Bassani, Bassiani] was born in Padua and died in Bergamo aged about 56. He was a fine violinist and a highly popular composer for his instrument. Arcangelo Corelli is thought by some to have been his pupil. His works include operas, masses and solo cantatas. James Kent boldly borrowed from him passages and whole movements for his own anthems.
