That Cherry Rag is an unusual and intriguing composition with many nice touches. Its form is AABBCCDD with a 4-bar introduction and 8-bar interludes preceding each of the C-strains whereby the A-, BC and D-strains are written progressively in the major keys of F, Bb and Eb respectively. The exciting final D-strain, which the editor particularly enjoys, is an octave higher than the first iteration and which, in this adaptation for recorder sextet necessitates that the 1st bass to alternates to treble. Great stuff!!
That Cherry Rag was published by the The H. Kirkus Dugdale Co., Washington, D.C., USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
