A Whispered Thought, is a dainty composition and is illustrated on the cover of the original sheet music by an elegant lady in 18th-century ball gown listening intently to a ghostly whisperer. The piece itself delights and charms in its tuneful delicate airs. Its form is basically AABBCCABBA with a 5-bar introduction and a two bar interlude between the C- and A-strains whereby the AB- and C-strains are in the major keys of Bb and Eb respectively. This is a lovely piece for tenor recorder players as the soft expressiveness of that instrument comes fully into play.
A Whispered Thought was published by J.W. Jenkins' Sons Music Co., Kansas City, Missouri, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
