Cruel Papa! is a fine fox trot having just two melodies giving lie to its vocal character and indeed lyrics are provided telling us what a great guy this cruel father is. Its form is ABBB with an 8-bar introduction. The whole is repeated and concluded with a 4-bar coda. The 1st B-strain may be sung to, the 2nd and 3rd B-strains are played an octave higher. The accompanying lyrics for the 1st B-strain (bars 21-36) are to whit:
