Last updated: 18.12.23
Luella Lockwood Moore was an American composer, born in Pontiac, Michigan to musical parents. Her father, Timothy Lockwood, wrote some 55 songs and piano pieces in the 1860's and her mother taught music and organising musical extravaganzas. Luella Lockwood Moore had no formal music education but learned by playing in Pontiac's churches and performing in her mother's extravaganzas. She is known for her orchestral suite My Lady's Boudoir and wrote a number of popular songs and instrumental pieces. She is known to have used Marion Arlington and Phil & Beth Moore as pseudonyms. Of ragtime interest is her Paprika (1909). She died and is buried in Detroit.
