After composing a dozen or so of works between 1898 and 1905 (among them Japanese Rag
(1901) published by The W.H. Willis Music Company
, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA) he
became involved in publishing, starting with Monroe H. Rosenfeld
. He was general manager of Jerome H. Remick & Co.
before teaming up with Walter Douglas and Walter Donaldson to form Donaldson, Douglas & Gumble Inc
. He later joined Warner Brothers Publications
where he remained until his death.
