Guilio Caccini  (c.1550-1610)

According to The New Penguin Dictionary of Music, Guilio Caccini was an Italian composer (and lutenist) whose opera "Eurydice" (1600) is one of the earliest operas; as a pioneer of a newly expressive type of music he called his collection of madrigals and canzonets (1601) Le nuove musiche, i.e. new music(s).
