p_russellleah.jpgAll that can presently (January 2025) be gleaned about Leah Russell from sheet music covers and by Internet searching is that she was an American mezzo soprano vaudeville star who has been featured on at least 3 works published between 1900 and 1902.
There are brief press reports describing her as Chicago's own Yiddish Girl'' who sang some pretty songs and introduced a new imitation that of a Hebrew soubrette.
Her portrait on the left is taken from Down Where the Cotton Blossoms Grow (1901) music by Harry von Tilzer, words by Andrew B. Sterling and published by Shapiro, Bernstein & von Tilzer, New York, USA.
Surfers are welcome to contribute any further information about this performer.
