Montgomery was the partner of Fred Stone ()873-1959) the pair becoming famous for their performance in the Broadway musical The Wizard of Oz (1903). They met in Denver where Montgomery was working and performed together for 22 years until Montgomery's untimely death in Chicago, Illonois.
After their successes in vaudeville they played in a number Broadway musicals as well as playing in London.
