p_lindjen.jpgAccording to the Internet source given below, Johanna Maria "Jenny" Lind was a Swedish opera singer born in Klara in central Stockholm, Sweden.
She became famous after performing Der Freischütz, by Carl Maria von Weber, in Sweden and became one of the most highly regarded singers of the 19th century.
She toured and performed extensively in Europe, the United States and Cuba. She retired from opera after two acclaimed seasons in London at the age of 29. Lind was a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music from 1840 and from 1882 was a professor of singing at the Royal College of Music in London.
She died in Wynd's Point, Herefordshire.
