Last updated: 26.04.24
p_hurleya.jpgAccording to the Internet source given below, was an English music hall singer born in London.
Initially a boxer, he would sing The Strongest Man on Earth (1890 - music: F.W. Venton; words: Edward Roden) after his fights. Singing appealed to him to such an extent that and he began performing the song in London music halls basing his act on life as a costermonger He supported many popular acts, including Marie Lloyd, with whom he toured in Australia and married upon their return to England in 1906.
He supported Lloyd in all of her performances until their marriage broke up a few years later. Hurley never recovered from the estrangement and had stopped performing altogether by 1910.
He died from pneumonia at Jack Straw's Castle, Hampstead, and was buried in Tower Hamlets Cemetery, East London..
