When December comes around each year We've Been a While a Wandering is sung by the Tyneside Maritime Chorus of which I was a proud 3-year member. It is a wassail song to be sung from door-to-door and there are several versions. In all the versions there is a common verse of:
We are not daily beggars that beg from door to door
We are your neighbour's children for we've been here before
