Stormalong
Last updated: 22.01.22
Stormalong is a fine of which the venerable Master Mariner W. B. Whall wrote in his Sea Songs Ships and Shanties that it was a very favourite old shanty and full of character, particularly in the tune. He also added that there was seldom any attempt made at improvisation.
It is his collected version that I love belting and roaring out but it must be added that I have heard many different versions by other maritime singers of today. It seems that some improvisation has taken place!
