There are endless versions of "Sally Brown" but my favourite is taken from one of my most prized songbooks namely
Sea Songs Ships and Shanties collected by W.B. Whall, Master Mariner (1912). He describes the shanty as a great favourite when heaving up the anchor and that it wasn't a hauling song. The lyrics are no longer politically correct in that they have expressions such as "bright mulatta" or "nigger baby" and have to be bowdlerised in order to make the song acceptable to unknowledgeable modern audiences.
