I had never heard or heard of "Lustig, lustig, ihr lieben Brüder" until coming across it in
Lieder, Songs und Gospels 3. This is a happy, uncomplicated drinking song of some seven short verses. It is full of snappy and profoundly wise pieces of advice regarding not working too hard, drinking as much as you can, having disrespect for work foremen, priests, kings and emperors, knowing that the world belongs to the hard-drinking classes and that heaven is to be found inside a barrel.
To which I say, "Amen, amen, amen".
