Joe Bowers
Last updated: 11.10.23
"Joe Bowers" is another song that I got from one of Wilfried Drygala's songbooks. It's a nice long dirge, nine verses, about betrayal of a gold-miner, working his guts out for his bitch of a wife who rewards our Joe by having it off with a butcher. The outcome of this marital disloyalty is a red-haired baby. Our Joe seems to be a bit simple-minded as he wastes two long verses on wondering about the colour of the babe's hair and to which gender it belongs.
I personally enjoy this song very much and am somewhat surprised that it seems no one has recorded it, at least not in Amazon's extensive CD list. Perhaps it is too long!
