An amusing song of a simple sailor on shore wanting to buy some whiskey after being chatted up by a gay young damsel. It has a high moral tone in that after landing up instead with a child in a basket, Jack, the sailor, does the decent thing and takes care of the child's soul by arranging a christening for it.
I've never heard it sung but sing it myself at a steady pace and really enjoy the chorus. This is another song I found in the Clancy Brothers' The Irish Songbook. This song may be found in the Tyneside Maritime Chorus songbook
