Length: approx. 2½ mins.
Chestnuts is a delightful medley as ragged as it gets. As an adaptation for recorder quintet, it is an all tenor/bass affair which brings out the melodies beautifully. The 1st tenor has all the running whilst the 2nd tenor has the tricky task of tonguing broken runs in close harmony with the upper voice. As with nearly all these adaptations, the 3rd tenor makes up but does not lead the rhythm section giving a solid thump, thump to a firm bass line. It cannot be left out of a Wenrich programme!
Chestnuts was published by Arnett-Delonais Co., Chicago, Illinois, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
