Although Scott or his publisher Will L. Livernash sub-titled Dixie Dimples as a novelty rag or fox trot and despite its dotted-note melodies, this piece is for my taste a classic rag in AABBACCA form. The strains are happy, optimistic and effervescent begging a jaunting jog-along pace. The descant will especially enjoy having the melody throughout while the other players are fully occupied. A delightful piece!
The cover of the original sheet music is graced by three smiling, rosy-cheeked be-dimpled Dixie charmers in echelon entirely within the spirit of this charming composition.
