Length: approx. 2¼ mins. Optional vocals (tenor), words by Bartley Costello.
Comical Eyes is really quite a simple so-called "coon" song well suited for recorder ragtime beginners. The 90-odd-plus-years lyrics are of course completely outdated and perhaps for some, more than a little offensive. They are however in complete keeping with their times and should be regarded affectionately within their historical context. In this matter Mills was way ahead of his time and he himself avoided the lurid covers which many of his contemporaries, both composers and publishers used to "enhance" their musical wares.
Comical Eyes was published by F. A. Mills, New York, USA.
A tempo of 20 crotchets/min. is suggested.
