Length: approx. 4¼ mins. Sounds best with the 1st tenor and bass doubled.
Angel Food is a delightful rag ranking high on this editor's list of personal favourites. Its form is basically AABB at the outset before becoming an involved admixture of repeated C, D and E themes. In this adaptation for recorder the treble and 1st tenor voices share the melodies. For the basses there are some fine "walking" passages to be enraptured with. In the final C and D themes, the composition is scored in octaves, ad lib which should be taken as mandatory even if more technically difficult.
Angel Food is indeed the right stuff for those mediators between the sacred and profane realms as well as for heaven itself!
Angel Food was published by F.J.A. Forster Music Publisher, Chicago, Illinois, USA.
A tempo of 78 crotchets/min. is suggested.
