The Burglar Buck appears to be a descriptive rag concerning burglars going about their nefarious activities. The front cover of the original sheet music shows a trio of masked burglars. The leading bowler-hatted vaguely Irish delinquent is happily dancing or tip-toeing to strains, ABACC by the way, produced by his accomplice at a grand piano all under the gaze of a third keeping look-out from his vantage at the point of entry, an opened window, no doubt prepared for a quick get-away. This rare composition may have been intended for the stage or utilised as a vaudeville piece. Whatever, all this should be borne in mind when performing this recorder quintet.
The Burglar Buck was published by the Chas. K. Harris, New York, USA.
A tempo of 78 crotchets/min. is suggested.
