Length: approx. 3¼ mins.
Squirrel Food is generally accepted to be the fruit of the oak tree. Well, both squirrel and acorn are appropriately shown on the cover of the original sheet music. The rag itself is a rousing affair characterised by thumping chords in AABBCCB form with an 8-bar introduction whereby the AABB- and CCB-.strains are in the major keys of C and F respectively. In this adaptation for recorder sextet, the treble voice has the melodies from start to finish. A worthy companion to the other Grady rags.
Squirrel Food was published by Olympic Music Publishers, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.
A tempo of 150 crotchets/min. is suggested.
