Jolly Sam is fine cakewalk in AABBACCBB form with a 4-bar introduction and an 8-bar interlude between the CC and BB strains. This transcription for recorder sextet should warm the cockles of the hearts of those ensembles that enjoy solos in their performance. Not only are the gay melodies shared the treble and 1st tenor, but also the 1st bass alternates to sopranino to lead the final triumphant BB strains. Perhaps best of all is the fact that the 1st tenor is completely unemployed for the final BB section - a golden opportunity to perhaps personify Jolly Sam and dance the cakewalk him-/herself at the same time leading the ensemble or even the audience. All great fun for everybody!
Jolly Sam was published by Tremont Music Pub. Co., Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
A tempo of 76 crotchets/min. is suggested.
