Wild Oats is two-strain composition the first of which has a mysterious air about it whilst the latter is bright and cheerful. Its form is AABBAB with a 4-bar introduction whereby the A- and B-strains are written in the major keys of Bb and Eb respectively. As a recorder sextet, this is an all tenor/bass affair and here the bass voices are reminded not to overwhelm the tenors. Well garnished with many crashing 3- and 4-bar chords, this is yet another Cobb piece that will delight those bass-loving recorder ensembles.
Wild Oats was published in Melody by Walter Jacobs, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
A tempo of 100 crotchets/min. is suggested.
