Length: approx. 4¼ mins. Sounds best with the bass doubled.
Yankee Kid is, as one would expect from the title and the brightly coloured cover of the original sheet music, a "raggedized" version of Yankee Doodle Boy (1904) composed by George. M. Cohan. The cover shows a diminutive boy with a prophetically striking resemblance to James Cagney who played Cohan in the 1942 Hollywood production Yankee Doodle Dandy, raising his boater whilst piloting an improbable aviation contrivance above warships of the United States Navy. All very patriotic indeed!
The march itself is of course bright and breezy its form being AABBACCDD with a 4-bar introduction whereby the A/B- and C/D-strains are in the major keys of C and F respectively.
Yankee Kid was published by Jerome H. Remick & Co., New York & Detroit, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
