Length: approx. 2¼ mins. Sounds best with the bass doubled.
Hacienda, subtitled "The Society Tango", is lovely little piece with delightful mood changes. The front cover of the original sheet music shows elegantly clad tangoing pairs in a vast ballroom. Its form is AABCC with a 5-bar introduction whereby the AB- and C-strains are written in the major keys of F and D respectively. The drama laden 5-bar introduction leads into the achingly sad and dolorous A- and B-strains during which the 3rd tenor in this adaptation for recorder quintet has virtually nothing to do. The C-strains, the 2nd iteration of which being scored grandioso, contrast with its bright and cheerful melody. Definitely another of those pieces the performance of which is enhanced by the presence of a tangoing dancers - perhaps here even the 3rd tenor might be persuaded the get his or her feet moving!
Hacienda was published by Will Rossiter, Chicago, Illinois, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
