A Totally Different Rag was dedicated to Gerrit A. Archibald, Indianapolis, Indiana. Its form is AABBCCB whereby the AABB- and CCB-strains are written in the recorder players' favourite keys of Eb and Ab respectively. And why is this composition totally different? Well it has been written that the B-strain with its suspended 4ths is unusually constructed and that its repletion as the final strain is also unusual. Whatever, this is a fine piece and a must for May Aufderheide admirers.
A Totally Different Rag was published by J.H. Aufderheide & Co., Indianapolis, Indiana, USA in instrumental and vocal (lyrics by Earl C. Jones) versions.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
