Jorg F. Voss  (1936-)
Last updated: 02.04.23
According to the Internet source given below, Jorg F. Voss is a German composer. After early exposure to church youth music in East Germany in the immediate post-war period, his family escaped to West Germany in 1947 where he was involved in the performance of renaissance and baroque and contemporary compositions. These included works by Gottfried Wolters, Willi Träder, Egon Kraus.
Studies as an engineer brought him to the United States in 1959 where remained until his retirement in 1994. He sang in choirs, played recorders and directed in groups in Wisconsin, California, Arkansas and Georgia. His compositions have so far used rich traditional harmonies, spiced occasionally with some dissonance. His love for polyphony shows in many pieces, but he does not shy away from sections of "vertical" music. Rhythmic patterns vary, syncopation and shifting time signatures present some challenge to first sight reading.
