Arthur Sullivan  (1842-1900)
Last updated: 30.01.24
According to The New Penguin Dictionary of Music, Arthur Sullivan was an English composer (also organist and conductor) who studied in Leipzig. Wrote much serious music - including symphony, overture "Di Ballo", religious cantata "The Golden Legend", opera "Ivanhoe" - but made his chief reputation in a long series of successful operettas, combining solid musical construction with apt reinforcement of verbal points. He was knighted in 1883.
