Alessandro Stradella  (c. 1645-1682)
Last updated: 02.04.23
According to The New Penguin Dictionary of Music, Alessandro Stradella was an Italian composer of operas and cantatas with notable choral writing; also of church music, sinfonias for strings, etc. Of noble family. Was murdered: Legend says that he escaped from an earlier attempted assassination after an elopement but evidence for this is lacking - though it forms the basis of an opera about him by Flotow, 1842.
