Dirk R. Camphuysen  (1586-1627)

According to the Internet source given below, Dirk Rafaelszoon Camphuysen was a Dutch poet, painter, author and theologian. He was born in Gorinchem, the son of a surgeon and Mennonite mother. He studied drawing with Dirck Govertsz and also studied languages becoming secretary and private tutor in Nieuwpoort where studied theology as well in his spare time (1608).
He was a professor at the Latin School of Utrecht (1614), he was appointed pastor of the Cathedral Saint Martin in Utrecht and later in Vleuten. He was persecuted as a follower of Arminius and took refuge in Friesland where he devoted himself to poetry.
He died in Dokkum.
