Publisher's blurb:
"A choice collection, made by Colm O Lochlainn, of 102 songs - all well worth singing. Many of them are of respectable antiquity, 200 years or so, and many more were made in recent times, e.g. "The Foot and Mouth Disease", "Bachelor's Walk", "The Ragman's Ball". Grave and gay, old and new, rich and rare, free and easy, this book holds many songs which will be loved the world over."
My Remarks:
I found this wonderful book along with its companion,
More Irish Street Ballads, in a Worcester, England second hand book shop in the early 1990's having paid a princely £20 for the pair. A bargain at half the price, now there's the Irish for you! Not only are the books themselves in excellent condition but the also they contain marvellous songs with copious footnotes and large numbers of alternate lyrics. An absolute must in any songbook collection. This is the source for:
- Brennan on the Moor
- Finnegan's Wake
- The Parting Glass
- Real Old Mountain Dew
